En primer término se describe brevemente el análisis regional de frecuencia de crecientes y se indican sus ventajas y características fundamentales. Enseguida se expone con detalle el Método del índice de Crecientes, MIC, desarrollado hacia 1960 y considerado actualmente como una técnica hidrológica consistente. Se citan las particularidades de la aplicación del MIC, a los datos de la Región Hidrológica Número 10, Sinaloa. A continuación se cita la información hidrométrica disponible y la manera en que fueron estimados los datos faltantes. Posteriormente se analizan los resultados parciales de la aplicación del MIC y por último se formulan comentarios relativos a la aplicación de los resultados finales, destacando su utilidad en la estimación de los gastos máximos asociados a diversos periodos de retorno en sitios ubicados dentro de la región citada.

Application of the flood index method to Hydrological District Number 70, Sinaloa, Mexico

A brief description is given of the regional flood frequency analysis, its advantages and fundamental characteristics. A detailed review is given of the flood index method which was developed during the 1960s. This method is presently considered to be a consequent hydrological technique. Special aspects of the application of the FIM, to the hydrometric data of Hydrological District Number 10, Sinaloa, are given, including the procedures used to estimate the missing data andan analysis of the partial results. Several concluding remarks are presented concerning the application of the final results, stressing their usefulness in the estimation of maximum flood flows for the design return periods in the study region.
